FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY TIM MILLS

FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY TIM MILLS

You have survived to not only make it to September, but it is the first Friday in September and that means “FAN FRIDAY”!!!!

This week is an impressive display of the adage use what you have and make what you can and viola a Hybrid is born and it is a tough looking machine. Bravo Tim for your winning combination and your 1:1 inspiration is mighty imposing in of itself. Take a long lingering break to appreciate this fine fine Friday and Tim’s build.

TIM’S BUILD COMMENTS:

The Hybrid…

This build came about through a desire for a decent hard body shell for my aged SCX10 chassis. The chassis has gone through a few Lexan shells in the past, none of which really hit the spot.  It was only by chance that I tried the cab from my Cross-Rc HC4, it was more luck than judgement that it fitted perfectly width wise on the SCX10 chassis, but needed some work to fit over the transmission. That was dealt with easily which then left the back of the chassis. What to do, a tray back maybe? I decided against leaf spring rear suspension as I wanted the standard SCX10 articulation, but I wanted something different from the standard shock hoop setup. I decided to use cantilever suspension and wanted to make it a feature rather than hide the setup. The inspiration for the rear section came from an actual 1:1 truck which I copied to a point, although I had to make some changes to allow for the suspension and transmission. The back is all hand-made from sheets of styrene and has the usual inaccuracies of hand made parts, but that just adds character. Painting was done with rattle cans and the weathering was done with an airbrush. As this truck is used properly, it has a servo winch mounted at the front which is controlled by a Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 esc. The general specs are as follows…

  • Tekin FXR esc
  • Tekin 45t heavy duty brushed motor
  • Spectrum 6 channel RX
  • Spectrum dx6i TX
  • CC 10amp BEC
  • 3s batteries 2250s
  • Cross-RC HC4 lighting kit
  • Hitec homemade servo winch
  • Savox SV 1272 steering servo
  • RC4WD 6 lug 1.7 internal beadlock wheels (reversed for the deep dish appearance)
  • Tyres are 1.7 Super Swampers.
  • Gmade aeration shocks all round
  • Axial high clearance knuckles
  • CVD’s
  • Axle Beef tubes
  • All metal transmission internal gears
  • 32p spur and pinion
  • Metal drive shafts
  • Cross-RC HC4 cab
  • Cross-RC HC4 front bumper
  • Driver is Clay Morrow from Sons of Anarchy
