FAILS, FOIBLES, AND WHOOPSIES

FAILS, FOIBLES, AND WHOOPSIES

Just in case you’ve had a rough week/weekend racing or just backyard bashing, this list should help you crack a smile or at least a groan of understanding.

1. STICKY SITUATION

When gluing up a new set of tires and you decide it’s too boring and you’d rather glue your fingers together instead, or your tyres to pit table or simply squeezing too much glue and it goes all over the surface of your new tire…

2. ESC BBQ

So you’re in a rush or someone is talking to you and you get distracted, or you just have a proper Donald Trump moment and your mind goes into dumb mode and you plug your battery in backwards… Resulting in a smoking esc.

3. NO SENSE

You decide that you need to change the settings on your esc, you unplug the sensor cable from the motor and plug in your program card to make the changes. Then you leave the sensor cable unplugged… The motor only revs to about 60%… And even though you’ve done this 20 times in your career you still have a 30 second moment where you and 2 of your racing buddies can’t work out what’s going on.

4. NUT JOB

You forget to tighten one wheel up and the bloody things goes flying off down the main straight, slowly turning right across the whole track in front of other cars while marshals are frantically chasing it around in circles. It’s one of those moments that would look amazing if the Benny Hills song was playing in the background.

5. “IT’S SLOW AS SH#T”

Every single one of us has done this one before. Forgetting to charge your battery or leaving the previous race’s flat battery still in the car for race 2.

6. DNS / DNF

So you’re having transponder issues and you decide to try a spare one from your fellow racer. You then go out and dominate the race but you’ve forgotten to tell race control the new transponder number….you’re now last and red faced.

7. BRAIN FREEZE

It’s 15 minutes before your race, your battery is now charged, your sensor cable is plugged in, your tyres are glued on and your wheel nuts are tight. You put your tyre warmers on and kick back waiting for your race. With one minute to go, you take your tire warmers off and realise that they’re freezing cold and you forgot to turn them on… Drift time!

8. LOST SIGNAL

All your prep is good, the car is great, everything is perfect until 4 minutes into the race when your transmitter makes a beeping noise and turns off on you.

9. ZERO MESH

A bigger pinion is needed to get that # 1 spot, so you take the old one off, loosen the motor screws, put the new pinion on, mesh the pinion to the spur and do up the motor screws… But you forget to tighten the pinion grub screw and 5 laps in you hit neutral down the back straight and your pinion has pissed off and ended up in Africa somewhere.

10. SCREWED

So you’ve made a vital change to your chassis – maybe you had to de-tweak it – in the process of doing this you loosen the bottom chassis screws… You then race and wonder why your car is handling funny. After the race you see that 3 screws you forgot to tighten up have swiftly applied for a visa and disappeared back to their home land, China.

We have all done it from time to time and we can all remember a time when it ruined ‘that’ important A Main final but just know that you’re not the only one, it happens to the top racers as well.

This list originated over at R1Wurks and we just had to share it with some flair!
