FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY AL IVERSON
Al’s build info;
This is my M35 off-road recovery truck. Not wanting to over complicate things I wanted a simple truck to be able to just take out and enjoy. To make this process as painless as possible I used as many off the shelf parts, however there was still a need to hand-make 26 parts. My staple to start a build like this is to use hardware store framework. The axles are from Cross RC with Vanquish drive shafts. Battery for this build is a Protek RC Graphene Plus 4100 3-cell that has more than enough power to run it, not to mention I get an easy 3 hours plus of run time. My motor of choice for this rig is the Holmes Hobbies stubby 540 1400rpm. Speed control is the trusty Castle Side Winder 3 and it works perfectly! This ESC is so reliable that I have 16 of them in my trucks and they have never been a bit of trouble. Radio is DX5 Rugged it did take some time to get used to the touch-pad, but I have come around to it! Now I have switched over all my new trucks to my new controller. The leaf springs work well on this build offering up about 3 inches of flexibility. The Cross RC tires offer plenty of bite for crawling and hill climbing. All outdoor pictures are by Tom Kunth with the graphics done by Perry Duchow. Hobby Town in Oshkosh has a lot of Cross RC parts in stock and that makes life much easier. This project took roughly 4 weeks from start to finish. The KingKong ZIL 130 seen in my pics was a winter project truck too but it’s done as well as the trailer! Now what to do???
