FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY BILLY FUSEDRC
Billy’s build info;
First off, I want to thank Angelo from ACRC LED SYSTEMS for getting me into this hobby! I bought his old Team Associated SC5M short course chassis and pretty much refurbished it with new parts. Paired it with a body from JConcepts and that’s where the story begins.The body build started, as usual, with a lot of research. Browsing through photos of Fox body dragster builds, dragster tube chassis, dragster roll cages, and all the random details that goes into a race car. I then took those details, for example the parachute mount, and added my designer flare to create something original. I wanted to keep the front fairly simple, blacked out headlights, open grill with FUSEDRC mesh topped off with a mustang emblem, and self-ejecting button fasteners often seen on dragsters. Since it’s a dragster build, lexan windows are needed. With lexan windows in real life, it needs support to keep them from warping. That is where I took some of my FD inspiration and designed the front truss lexan windshield supports. The roll cage itself was designed after Klugger’s mustang tube chassis cage setup. I wanted to design a cage that can be widely adapted throughout many different NPD shells. As we can see, the large variations of rear windshields on NPD bodies are insane. With this design, the FUSEDRC NPD cage should fit the majority of NPD bodies out on the market today. I spent a lot of time on the rear of the car. Handmade parachute after pretty much studying how to assemble a real life one. Researched on what’s needed in order for it to work and look functional – release cord, bungee cord strap, tag, etc… Completely redesigned the chute mount with my ‘blue sky design’ thinking. Nobody wants a boring, cookie cutter, chute mount, right? I finished off the rear with some minor details – external remote battery terminals and a cutoff switch. Lastly, I had to design an adapter to mount the wheelie bar.
