FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY JAMES FLEMING
James’s build info;
Initially this project started out with the goal of creating a Baja Sportsman Class Drag Racing Car! But with the large scale Drag Racing scene in my area of Tennessee losing popularity it was time to rethink this build! So, the idea hit me…. How about an all-purpose Street/Track Car! Starting with your average run of the mill HPI Baja 5B SS, I set to work. First up was too ditch the stock 29.5cc Fuelie motor! The replacement? How about a scratch built a Zenoah G340 Powerplant that I personally fully ported. A quick list of all the extra goodies… Walbro 990 modified Carburetor, Lightened Flywheel, Full Vertigo Vented Clutch Housing Setup and Hostile Composite Gearing (Geared towards Mid to High rpm’s). Installed a modified “Port Matched” DDM V1 Dominator Muffler that gives it that “Smooth” sound, not the normal loud obnoxious Braaap of most of my builds. Next with the suspension I decided to go with Full Force’s fully adjustable front and rear shock towers. As you can see from the pics this lowered its stance a lot without compromising any shock travel. You can never go wrong with some lighter Carbon Fiber bits here and there. It also features fully adjustable front and rear sway bars, for that all-important cornering, that’s a must for street course running. A large wing in back for rear down force, with shortened Risers, to match the air flow over the car, and gracing the front end is a bumper that adds just enough down force yet remains light. For the rubber side of things, it sports a set of Max Sure Grip tires and Ghost Spoke Rims. The result of the build was one that can take on any FG 2wd or 4wd around these parts, on a Street Course. Tennessee is bringing back Street Course Racing this year.
