I was approached by Orlando Cordova to build him a one off unique rig that could be used for competition crawling in X4 races, Trail Class and Scale comps. He wanted an Ultra4/KOH type feel to the rig. I took inspiration from various types of KOH/U4 1:1 trucks. Although currently set up as a crawler, a few changes could make this a formidable rock racer.
Working with steel is great because you can add, cut, remove, put back until you get the result you want. Working through the process of “popping lines” on the truck is the most tedious. It’s not uncommon to cut off and redo parts frequently. I use a MIG welder to tack the entire chassis together and then go back and finish weld.
