FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY JOSH DUTTON
Hello Friday, we hope it is off to a great start already, and Josh’s build will on enhance and improve your day. Gorgeous and “mindbottling”!!! Detail after detail..
JOSH’S BUILD INFO:
After my first custom Rat Rod build, I decided to take it a step further with #2. Dubbed “old #2” I started with an amazing 3D printed chopped truck cab designed by Ossum Designs https://www.facebook.com/ossumdesigns/). From there I took half inch square steel tubing and designed my own chassis this time. Once I had it all welded up I cut the tubing in half to create 2 mirror image C-channel frame rails. The front suspension is a custom CNC’d drop axle for Tamiya semi-trucks hung way out front with RC4WD links. The rear axle is an RC4WD Yota 2 with ballistic diff cover mounted on a triangulated 4-link with a built-from-scratch bagged suspension utilizing Lesu 1/14 semi-truck scale air springs (nonfunctional) The grill is a modified 3D printed unit from NightCrawlers3D (https://www.facebook.com/NightCrawlers3D-183728298759414/) which I added some steel mesh stolen from an old waste basket. The bed sides are steel from a 1958 Tonka truck bed modded to allow my suspension to travel.
Since the cab was enclosed I figured I should go all out on the scale engine area. A “made in China” detailed die cast 12 valve diesel engine was ordered and brazed into the custom frame. Adding some scale ducting for the turbo piping from brake line and aluminum tubing.
The entire thing was weathered from scale oil leaks on the engine to the black diesel soot on the side of the cab from the exhaust.
The RC drivetrain consist of an RC4WD disruptor transmission with a 2200KV brushless system. It’s still not too fast but can do burnouts like no other. Steering is from a mini Savox servo mounted up front between the frame rails.
As always, the entire build video series is available on YouTube
