FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY MARK’S GARAGE

Mark’s Garage;

So backstory for this build…

I’m not so big into the drifting scene as you can tell of my 4×4 RC background. I have built one before and I put the RC4WD BFGoodrich edition Mojave II body on it. While it did still drift, it was more for looks than function. That’s when the Skyline Build happened. I decided I’d get another MST RMX RTR chassis and do a lexan body since I’ve been practicing with airbrushing; something I had planned to get into for 2021. I’ve always worked on hard-plastic bodies because paint was so much easier to obtain, unlike Tamiya Cans specifically for polycarbonate bodies. I opted for a Mitsubishi EvoX body for the RTR kit, but I knew I wasn’t going to use that on the drifter. I had all the plans to put that Evo body on an AWD chassis I’ve neglected, the Tamiya TT02 and its perfect because MST uses a ton of Tamiya bodies for their kits. So, then of course, it was time to choose a body for the drifter and stumbled upon an R31 Skyline by Killerbody. And it was really cheap from Asiatees (one of my favorite places to get stuff from!) I really wanted an old-school-looking build, and who doesn’t love old-school?

Before anything for the build arrived, I had already saved so many pictures for color reference. Most of the 2dr R31s were one whole body color, and I didn’t want to do that. Another option was red body and black bumpers, but I wanted to try the metallics side of paint for lexan bodies. I found a ton of pictures on the 4dr side of the R31 Skyline, thus the Sky Blue Anodized top from Tamiya (PS-49) and Pro-Line’s Metallic Charcoal for the bottom half of the car. It really brought the whole old-school theme come to life with the boxy body style and the two-tone paintjob. I’ve also applied the stickers that were provided along with the light buckets to make it come to life. (We’ll hopefully be adding a light kit soon)

To finish the look, I went with wheels from Scale Dynamics in their licensed WorkWheelsJP Equip01. They really look the part for the 16inch look for the wheels in 1:1! Can’t be anymore happier with the combination of the body and the wheels! Can’t wait to actually put a LiPo on this, it’s still practically brand new!
