FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY NEIL CLEE

FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY NEIL CLEE

Friday sweet hibernating Friday, today’s Fan Friday will break you out of any winter time funk you may be experiencing. Neil, I’m pretty sure if we looked him up in the dictionary it would be under the word “meticulous”!!! The “box” alone would qualify him, but put all the details together the hand made bumpers, bed extension, interior details, wheel wells from a chalk container and words no longer do the build justice.

The original idea for this build came about from wanting a Class 1 truck that was very much ‘comp worthy’. I knew from the start that it needed to be linked. After spending some time considering what chassis to use, I decided on the GCM Skeleton. I was aware that I would need to fab up some body mounts, and then sliders and bumpers etc. and so the build began. To further improve the performance, I bobbed 1.5 inches out of the rear bed, and also opted for a HeyOK servo winch. This allowed me to bring the front bumper right against the grille to really improve the approach angle. After I’d spent a couple of weeks preparing the body and painting the metal work, I started work on the interior. This is my first attempt at styrene work so it was a bit of a learning curve, but I’m really pleased with the outcome. I also had to cut 1 inch out of the driver figure to get him to fit… I’m really happy with the performance out on the trail. It happily follows my friends SCX10 II anywhere! I’m still tweaking a couple of things, but this Hilux is definitely a keeper.
