FAN FRIDAY FEATURED BUILD BY PAT SAMSON
It’s almost Hall-O-Ween so Pat’s paint livery is quite appropriate for this weeks Fan Friday, and lets face it we aren’t shy about our love of orange and black..
PAT’S BUILD INFO:
I’ve always been a big fan of trophy trucks, but rather disappointed in the lack of RC options on the market. Many years ago I got excited buying my Slash, but it was not really a scale rig. When Losi announced the Baja Rey and I saw the preview images, I knew I had to get my hands on it and put in a pre-order. Now a year later, the truck has really transformed.
I opted for replicating key features of the 2016 Jimco TT Justin Lofton truck which used striking features and I just really like orange. The main body paintwork was amazingly done by Barry Gamble, the rest I did by hand. While I was at it, I replaced the electronics with better quality gear from a retired race rig, giving me that servo power and sensored motor smoothness to make it a blast to drive.
I revamped the front suspension setup for dual shocks and made fake reservoirs for all my shocks. Fabricated some light bars, a dual stand up spare holder/tank, a full interior insert with moving driver, go-pro mount for the passenger seat, antenna, push bumper, roof plate, window nets and mirrors, custom MCI decals, and then just started buying scale parts like the jack and fire extinguishers to complete the look. Found orange STRC rings to match the body on the F11 beadlock wheels. Brake light controller and ESS-One+ added for flair, and the ability to honk at people. Gets em every time.
With all the detail and drive-ability, it is a true star on Thursday bash-nights at our local track, and feels like a dream come true in my hands. But there’s always room for improvement, and I’ll keep working on it.
