HEY RC HUB FANS… We apologize for the delays on this review but to be honest we have been having way too much fun with this one stop shop to FPV Drone Awesomeness! Read on to see if we think the complete product is worth your hard earned moola!

 RISE0207 –  $179.90

Handling / Flight

This little guy is crazy maneuverable right out of the box! It comes with 3 flight modes that enable or disable the much needed Gyro assistance if you are racing in a confined space.  We recommend starting off slow to really get your bearings on this little green monster and do yourself a favor and put those wall GUARDS ON – STAT! The props on this little green machine are very thin and will distort on a hard crash, which can really affect the flight characteristics. Whether you have crashed or even before your first flight we do recommend going through the easy calibration process of finding a level surface, center all your trims then bring each stick to the lower RIGHT position and wait for confirmation on the drone and you should be good to go!

Camera / FPV

Hello FPV!!! Now this, friends is what this whole drone is about and for the money she shines brightly! The team over at Rise has managed to cram in not only the flight controller but a full 25mW transmitter. The 600TVL Camera does a pretty good job transmitting your flight path to the included 4.3” LCD screen via 5.8GHZ. Rise knows not everyone is willing to give up some of their senses for full immersion FPV via the goggles so they planned ahead and have the perfect mount already installed on the transmitter! When using the screen sans goggles there is no fear of glare issues since they have you covered there by including a trick folding canopy that also serves double duty as a screen protector!  Features on said LCD screen include some very handy icons displaying battery life, ON TIME, Memory Card installed and Recording time if you go that route. Sadly there is no included memory card (it can take up to 32G) but come on who doesn’t have a memory card sitting on their desk they have no clue what’s actually on it! Indoors we tried to stay within 40-50 feet of the drone and there were the minor drops and glitches to be expected with this type of system. With screen resolution of 480×272 you will get just enough detail to know where you are headed. What was REALLY surprising was this trick Monitor/Receiver combo lasted well over an hour on a full charge!

Can we start this section with a huge asterisk and just say that run and charge times can vary depending on a lot of factors. No we won’t go into every single factor to worry about but concern ourselves with the most important ones. Our Flight times came in at an average of 4 to 5 minutes… again totally dependent on how hard you race this bad boy…. Like we said it’s a very agile little drone that will keep you smiling from ear to ear. With a charge time right at about an hour for the drone batteries we would recommend ordering at least 2 or maybe 3 batteries to keep the fun going as long as possible. That awesome monitor/receiver recording device…. Have no fear like we said we actually got tired of waiting for it to die off at well over an hour.  Goggles – No batteries here basically they are just a cool holder for the 4.3” LCD. Transmitter – 4 AA’s are already in the box and after running for what seems to be hours and leaving it on and forgetting about it we honestly have no clue when it will lose the force… same AA’s that came with the kit still have 2 bars of power.

Size / Portability

This one is a little tough coming in with only a 120mm wingspan the drone itself is go anywhere, however the FULL size J2000 2.4ghz  6-channel transmitter is not so tiny. Not to mention they actually have a metal bracket on the back that helps prop it up but also adds bulk. The LCD screen itself is very compact with a folding antenna. The other love/hate relationship here may be the goggles. While we had no comfort issues they do take up a good amount of space. Could all this fit into a backpack, absolutely… But don’t plan on bringing your copy of War and Peace with you.

Now we have to say this is where we think the HOUSE RACER sets itself apart! First off there is absolutely NOTHING for you to buy to start racing immediately. The drone has a lot stuffed into its tiny green shell and it does take a pretty good beating. The Controller is next level and really comes from the big leagues as far as size, fit, finish, not to mention cool factor! The goggles despite being just a molded plastic unit to hold the LCD screen/receiver do have some thought put into them. They have the TRI-Band style head fastening with Velcro adjustment, add to that a magnetically secured door to keep said receiver in place and there is also a near/far optical adjustment as well…Not so plain Jane goggles! The key to any FPV system is the ability to see that vital image as you blast through the house, taking care of that is the powerful 4.3” LCD that has that handy built in receiver. With the ability to scan 40 different channels running at 5.8ghz and able to scan bands A, B, E, F an R and a resolution of 480 x 272 it has absolutely everything you need for this system and maybe even your next FPV race machine!

We honestly can’t get enough of this complete Drone Racer in a box! For nicely under $200 bucks this IS the Mini Drone FPV all in one unit you have been looking for! We know that you can probably cobble, piece and program this all together for maybe a few bucks less but, why would you? When you go and order parts from 12 different sources or even if it’s the same hobby shop the components can have different warranties and you have to do all the piecing together yourself. Now don’t get us wrong we love to build things here (probably 12 different RC projects in pieces at this very moment) it’s just that we love plug and play too! So we give this bundle a big thumbs up!
